Shingles and the Eye_Health Tip NYC_0Shingles (AKA: Herpes Zoster) in the eye could lead to vision loss. Shingles, a resurgence of the chicken pox virus, can affect the eye – even without visible blisters on or around the eye. If you have a sudden change in vision or symptoms such as pain, throbbing, redness, light sensitivity or tearing in the eyes while you have shingles, you should see your eye doctor immediately.

Life is one big adventureResearchers in Sidney, Australia have developed a new technology to screen the eye for signs of early Alzheimer’s Disease. The device may be able to detect amyloid proteins in the retina which are associated with Alzheimer’s.  These proteins can be viewed in the eye up to 20 years before Alzheimer’s starts to affect memory and brain function. This means treatment can be started early when it has the best chance of slowing the progression of the disease.
