Our LASIK Technology
When you schedule a consultation with Dr. Eric Mandel, you are not only getting one of the best New York LASIK surgeons, but also someone who is at the forefront of technological advances and research in the field.
Dr. Mandel was the first LASIK surgeon in the New York Metropolitan area to be actively involved in Wavefront Custom Cornea research and diagnosis. In October 2000, Dr. Mandel presented his wavefront research at the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) meeting. Then in 2001, he was asked to speak as an “expert” on LASIK surgery at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) meeting. Additionally, he has been a speaker for the American Academy of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) on multiple occasions. Most recently, in July 2007, Dr. Mandel presented “Advanced Iris Registration” at the Aspen Advanced Refractive Surgery Congress.
In October of 2018, Mandel Vision became the first and only surgical center in New York to offer the latest advancement in LASIK technology, the iDesign Refractive Studio. Explore this and more state-of-the-art LASIK surgical technology utilized at Mandel Vision below:

The IntraLase laser allows Dr. Mandel to use a new blade-free laser technology for performing the critical first step in the LASIK surgery: creating the corneal flap. Click here to learn more about the IntraLase Procedure.

The iDesign Refractive Studio is the latest generation in customized LASIK treatments. Mandel Vision is proud to be the first and only practice in New York to offer this state-of-the-art technology to our LASIK patients. This technology uses a proprietary INSIDE+OUT approach that combines both corneal topography measurements and wavefront analysis. Click here to learn more about iDesign technology
The VISX® system provides Dr. Mandel with a whole new dimension in technology, accuracy, and safety in laser eye surgery. Click here to learn more about VISX® laser technology.

The Pentacam® is an advanced analysis system utilizing a slit illumination system and a Scheimpflug camera which rotates around the eye. This produces a set of three-dimensional measurement data which gives a precise geometric description of the anterior eye segment. Click here to learn more about Pentacam technology.
A corneal topographer is an integral part of our screening process for LASIK and PRK laser eye surgery at Mandel Vision. The topographer measures the curvature of the cornea, the front surface of the eye and compares it to a perfect sphere. It then creates a color topographical map of this surface. This map highlights the curvature of the cornea and quantifies astigmatism present in the cornea. Click here to learn more about Zeiss Atlas Corneal Topographer.
While Dr. Mandel does employ the latest technologies, he feels it is important to choose your New York LASIK surgeon based on skill, not just the technology employed at the practice. While the innovative tools used in LASIK can greatly improve results, it is still the surgeon’s skill, customized nomograms, analysis, and experience that create the best results. Dr. Mandel trains laser eye surgery doctors in New York on how to use the latest in LASIK technology, including the VISX® laser system.
